Crop update...

Hi from the farm.  It is the beginning of Apple season. We are finishing the Lodi and picking Jersey Mac, Rambo and Ginger gold.  The jersey mac is a cross of Macintosh but still an early season variety. Rambo is a hard crisp tart apple that I like to call Pennsylvania’s” Granny Smith”. Ginger gold is a variety that was found growing wild in an orchard in Virginia that is semi sweet and has a snap when you bite into it. The apples are picking about a week earlier than normal so look for your favorite ones soon.

Sweet corn and tomatoes are rolling along great. Stop in and ask our staff on what is needed to can and freeze your veggies so you enjoy them all year long. If you are raising those tomatoes be sure to keep some type of fungicide on them to keep the blight away. It is still a very serious problem here in Pennsylvania. Randy has the products in the Garden Center that you need to help protect your plants. Also the moths that make the worms in sweetcorn  will be increasing over the next  month.  It is important to apply an insecticide at least once a week to help prevent injury or you can just cut out the damaged part and eat the rest.

As always if you have any questions about your fruits or vegetables please give us a call or write us an e-mail!

Thanks again,

Reed Soergel
