Spring is here and we are tilling the ground again for another year. Nothing is more satisfying to a farmer than the smell of freshly plowed soil on a warm spring evening. Here at Soergel's, one of our main concerns is the soil. That's where everything begins. We put great effort into building and reconditioning the soil. Did you know that for every acre of vegetables that we raise we use 2 to 3 acres of soil building techniques and rotations to provide the healthiest plant possible? It is the healthiest of plants that makes the most nutritious vegetables for you and your family. We at Soergel's believe the responsible choice of farming takes the combining of organic processes along with some new and exciting technologies used to produce the best food you can buy. For instance, it is very important that you have high quality soil that is carefully monitored and special plant foods are given to your plant through trickle irrigation during times of heat or stress. It is in these times of stress that the soil can not supply the nutrition the plant needs and a product such as "miracle grow" is so very vital to the health of the plant. We use trickle irrigation because the plant food only goes in the root zone of the vegetable plant where it is completely used, therefore there is no runoff into the environment. This method of watering and feeding along with biodegradable plastic mulch reduces stress to the plants and gives you the best that nature has to offer.
